Privacy, terms and consumer information

Written in plain language, because terms nobody reads protect nobody. You can print this page or save it as a PDF from your browser.

Who you are dealing with

What I do: computer and laptop repair, upgrades, software installs, logical data recovery, on-site and remote support, sublimation printing, graphic design, interactive digital invitations and small websites.

Prices are final and {{BRAND}} is not VAT registered. Payment is by cash, EFT or a card payment link. There is no walk-in shop and no street address is published: drop-off and collection in Paarl are arranged per job and the address is sent to you when a time is agreed.

What I collect and why

The quote form on this site collects: your name, how you want me to reply, your phone number or email address, the town or suburb you are in, the service you picked, what you typed about the job, and the date you need it by. That is all of it. There is no street address field, no identity number field and no payment field, and the form cannot accept attachments.

I use those details for one thing: to read your request and send you a price. I do not sell them and I do not pass them to anyone for marketing.

If you bring me a device, I also take an intake record: your contact details, the device, its condition at drop-off and the fault. That is what the job is tracked against.

Who your information is shared with

Formspree, which handles the quote form, and my own email provider, which carries the notification to me. Nobody else. If a repair has to go to a third party, such as a data recovery lab for a physically damaged drive, I tell you who and ask you first.

Where your information goes

The quote form on this site is handled by Formspree, a form service based outside South Africa. When you press Send, the details you typed are sent to Formspree's servers, which are outside South Africa, and Formspree passes them on to me by email.

What is sent: your name, the way you asked me to reply to you, your phone number or email address, the town or suburb you gave, the service you selected, the details you typed about the job, and the date you said you need it by. Nothing else is collected by the form. It does not ask for your street address, your identity number or any payment details, and it cannot accept file attachments.

Why: so that I can read your request and send you a price. That is the only thing these details are used for. I do not sell them and I do not share them with anyone else for marketing.

How long: Formspree keeps a copy of your submission for up to 30 days and then removes it. My own copy is the notification email, which I keep for as long as I need it to quote and to do the job, and then for the period I have to keep business records. If you ask me to delete your details and I am not required to keep them, I will.

This is a transfer of your personal information out of South Africa, which section 72 of the Protection of Personal Information Act allows with your consent, among other grounds. The tick box on the quote form is how you give that consent, which is why the form cannot be sent without it.

If you would rather not have your details leave the country this way, send me a WhatsApp message on {{PHONE}}, call me, or email me at {{EMAIL}} instead. Those reach me directly.

If you are unhappy with how I handle your information, contact me first on {{EMAIL}}. You can also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.

How long it is kept

Form submissions: 30 days at Formspree, then only my notification email. Job records: for as long as I need them for the job and any warranty claim, and then for the period I am required to keep business records.

TODO before launch: the record-keeping period is a question for an accountant (open question 2 in the site specification). Either state the number of years here or confirm that this description is enough. The text above states what the business actually does; it has not been through legal review.

Your rights, and how to complain

You can ask me what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, and ask me to delete it where I am not required to keep it. Email {{EMAIL}} and I will answer.

If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa, which is the body that enforces the Protection of Personal Information Act.

Data on devices I repair

This is the part most people actually worry about, so it is specific:

Remote support

Every remote session is attended: you are at the machine, you can see everything I do, and you can end it at any moment by closing the connection. I ask for your agreement per session, not once for all time, and the remote tool is removed when the job is done. I do not connect to a machine without you knowing.

Quotes and estimates

Repairs start with a R200 diagnostic, which is disclosed here and agreed with you before the device goes on the bench. It is credited in full if you accept the repair within 14 days, and nothing is charged if I cannot find the fault. If I find the fault and you decide not to go ahead, the R200 is what you pay.

You get a written price before work starts. If the job turns out to need more than the quote covers, I stop and ask you first. Quotes are valid for 14 days.

TODO before launch: confirm this against the Consumer Protection Act section 15 requirements for estimates, and against the Phase 3 quote template. The text above states what the business actually does; it has not been through legal review.

Warranty

My labour carries a 30-day workmanship warranty. Parts I supply carry the supplier's warranty, which I pass on to you. Parts you supply yourself are fitted at the labour price and carry no warranty from me.

Data recovery is never guaranteed. The policy is no data, no fee: if I recover nothing, only the R200 diagnostic applies.

TODO before launch: the 30-day period is an assumption pending the Phase 3 templates (open question 9). Confirm it before launch, because it will be held to. The text above states what the business actually does; it has not been through legal review.

Deposits and payment

Repairs are paid on collection. Parts over R500 need a 50% deposit before I order them, and special-order parts cannot be refunded once ordered. Print orders under R300 are paid upfront; R300 and over take a 50% deposit with the balance on collection. Design, invitation and website work takes a 50% deposit.

Nothing is printed and no final design file is released before payment terms are met, and nothing is printed at all before you approve the proof in writing.

Turnaround

Typical, not guaranteed: repairs 2 to 5 days, printing 3 to 5 days from proof approval, invitations and websites 7 to 10 days. I work weekdays from 17:00, weekends 08:00 to 17:00, and if something is going to be late you hear it from me before the date, not after.

TODO before launch: confirm these as publishable commitments (open question 8). The text above states what the business actually does; it has not been through legal review.

Cancellation and cooling-off

Personalised items cannot be cancelled or returned once they are made. A mug with your photo on it has no value to anyone else, so the electronic cooling-off right does not apply to it. The same goes for anything else printed or designed to your specification, and for work you asked me to start straight away.

Before that point you can cancel: if I have not yet bought blanks or started work, you get your deposit back. If I have, the cost of what was already bought or done comes off it.

TODO before launch: the cooling-off exclusions under ECT Act sections 42 and 44 and the Consumer Protection Act need to be worded by an attorney, not by the person writing the website. The text above states what the business actually does; it has not been through legal review.

Uncollected devices

If a device is left with me after the work is done and paid for, I will remind you in writing at 30 days and again at 60 days, using the contact details on the intake form.

TODO before launch: the Consumer Protection Act rules on uncollected goods have not been checked, so no disposal policy is published here. This section must be completed before launch. The text above states what the business actually does; it has not been through legal review.

Artwork you send me

When you send me a picture, a logo or wording to print, you confirm that you own it or have permission to use it. I cannot print someone else's logo, a brand, a club badge or a cartoon character without the rights holder's permission, and I will turn that job down rather than risk it.

I also reserve the right to refuse a job whose content is unlawful or offensive.

TODO before launch: the customer warranty and indemnity wording for artwork needs an attorney, per the Phase 1 compliance checklist. It must also be drawn to the customer’s attention at order, not buried here. The text above states what the business actually does; it has not been through legal review.

Who owns the design work

Once a design job is paid in full, the final files are yours to use for what they were made for.

TODO before launch: default ownership of commissioned work under the Copyright Act has not been verified. Confirm before launch and state it exactly. The text above states what the business actually does; it has not been through legal review.

Cookies and tracking

This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from anyone else's servers. The only thing stored in your browser is your light or dark theme choice, if you pick one, and that never leaves your device. The only time this site talks to a third party is the moment you press Send on the quote form.
